Rockton owners file class action lawsuit against Chemtool and Lubrizol Corporation over chemical plant explosion and fire


ROCKTON, Ill. (WLS) – A class action lawsuit has been filed against the owners of the chemical plant that exploded and burned down in Rockton last week.

At least two owners are involved in the lawsuit against Chemtool and The Lubrizol Corporation.

The lawsuit claims people are suffering health problems from the smoke, and homes and yards have been damaged and covered in debris.

A 2-mile evacuation order was lifted on Friday, but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Although Lubrizol said he did not comment on the legal issues, he said he was “devastated by this event and deeply regretted the disruption and inconvenience it has caused to people in the region”.

We also have organized the removal of fire related debris … This has already helped a lot. In addition, we have reimbursement request forms posted on our website for individuals and businesses. We will continue to offer ongoing support to our clients. neighbors as our needs arise, ”the statement said.

Lubrizol said residents can request a service to have fire-related debris removed by visiting their website.
