Debit card information stolen from a Speedy Pac in Copperas Cove
Dear thieves, can’t you now? People are suffering enough.
The Copperas Cove Police Department says people who have recently used a debit or credit card to purchase gasoline at the Speedy Pac Valero station on 1st street north must check their bank or credit statements and monitor any unauthorized activity.
Lt. Kevin Miller reports that there have been several recent cases of customers reporting that their card information has been compromised after using the pumps at Speedy Pac. In most cases, customers reported using their Valero credit card.
According to Miller, it’s possible that a skimmer was used to get the information from the map, but no skimming device has been found there so far.
Maybe the thieves took them away before the police got wise? It’s just my thought, nothing the police reported.
I know these stories are all too common these days, but each one makes my blood boil. I guess I have been the victim of card information theft twice in my life. The first time someone kind of got my credit card information and used it to buy over $ 300 worth of seafood and alcoholic drinks at an oyster bar in Toronto, Canada.
What an eh-hole.
A few years later, a relative decided to use my information to get a credit card and go on a spending spree.
That one really hurt. Fortunately, they had a crisis of conscience and confessed to what they had done.
I don’t see that happening with this case in Coves. The thieves came in and out. Yay.
I don’t blame the Speedy Pac employees, by the way. Prowlers who tamper with pumps and ATMs are pros who know employees can’t watch every pump every second of the day as they help customers.
It’s just a sad part of our modern society. At the time, someone found a way to withdraw your money. Now they can leave with your card information.
If you have any information that might help the police get in touch with the lovely people responsible, you can send an anonymous report to Copperas Cove Crime Stoppers at (254) 547-1111 or advicesubmit.com. There is a cash reward of up to $ 1,000 if your tip leads to an arrest.
